Great seat…a bit big,
In all fairness, I should disclose that I purchased this seat over a year ago for our first-born son. As an avid reader of reviews whenever I make a purchase, I wanted to review this…albeit a little late and pay it forward. The model that I have WAS recalled, but it is not the model listed. A few colors manufactured during a small timeframe were recalled. The one pictured, has not been recalled.
I do love this car seat. It is incredibly safe, despite the recall, and feels very sturdy. The straps do not require re-threading as your child gets taller. You just move the straps up a notch on the back to accommodate the extra height. This seat has been a perfect fit from birth (8.5 lbs) to 1 year at 22-23 lbs. The seat actually still fits him because it accomodates a lot of length. The head support (wing-looking things) adjust in height as well as you adjust the straps so we still have at least an inch above his head. We are moving on to the next seat as winter is here, and he cannot fit in there anymore with bulky sweaters.
The downside to the height is that it doesn’t fit in a ton of cars. I had read this before purchasing it, and it is definitely something to consider. I have fit it in an Explorer, Suburban and Lexus RX. But, it is one of the larger car seats that I have seen. It is also fairly heavy even before you even get the little on in there.
From a safety standpoint, it receives excellent reviews, and I have heard nothing but rave reviews regarding Britax as a brand. We had a car seat technician install it for us, who raved about the Britax brand, and she indicated that they make the seats fool-proof, which I can appreciate. To note, the handle is made of steel with plastic around it while most seats do not have a steel re-inforced bar. I liked the idea that is was sort of a steel-reinforced cage around the little guy. The technician also mentioned that this seat was intended to be as safe while both in its base, and while using the seatbelt guides on the side. Those guides have made things MUCH easier for us. It works well in rental cars, grandma’s car, etc. without having to take out the car seat base, and re-install it.
The recall….our model/color was recalled. It was a relatively small issue involving a plastic chestpiece that wasn’t as sturdy as they wanted it, and within 2 weeks of the recall announcement, we had our replacement piece that they sent pro-actively as we had it returned the registration information to Britax.
In all (recall included), I would buy this seat again. The colors are nice and neutral and the seat is safe. It’s gotten a lot of action in the past year, and it has held up really well. No tears in the fabric or stains. The canopy part sometimes falls back on it’s own, but I would imagine that is to be expected after a year of use. It is definitely on the higher side in terms of price. But, if you are able to spend the extra money, I felt that this was a great investment for us.

|Absolutely love this car seat!,
When we had to replace our infant car seat last year, I wanted one that had easy to adjust straps and a good upper limit for both weight and height. Our previous seat had both, and we loved that seat for our first three children. However, as it was six years old, it was time to replace the seat. The first thing I discovered in my research was that infant car seats had gotten more expensive in six years.
And, despite how neat we had thought the easy to adjust straps and high limits were on our first seat, apparently manufacturers still weren’t big into easy to adjust straps. This seat was one of the few that had easy to adjust straps. (Meaning, you don’t have to rethread them when it’s time to move them upwards.)
We had purchased Britax convertible seats for our older kids, and were quite happy with them. Everything I have purchased from Britax so far has been fabulous, so I figured their infant seat would probably also be very good. Yes, it is pricey compared to some other infant seats. But, having had it now for a year, I can say it is worth it. I love how easy it is to adjust the straps as my son grows, and I love how securely the seat and its base installs in either our minivan or my husband’s car. The rebound bar also seems like a pretty neat feature. At just over a year, my son is still able to use this seat, and my older children would have been able to as infants as well. (My children tend to be on the larger side of things.)
Pros:
* Installs incredibly easily with LATCH. It’s also not too hard to install with a seatbelt, though we always use LATCH when we can. We have installed it quite easily in three different cars – a 2005 Toyota Sienna, a 2008 Hyundai Elantra, and a 2001 Toyota Echo.
* The straps adjust disgustingly easily. There’s a lever-like thing on the back. There’s also an easy to use front adjuster near the crotch strap when you need to loosen or tighten the straps.
* You can leave the handle up or down after you put the seat in the car. (I do realize this is now available on a lot of seats, but it wasn’t with our first one!)
* A really good-sized canopy.
* Can be used without the base as well, using a seatbelt to secure it.
* It comes with an insert for small babies. (I can’t say we got any use out of it, but it’s nice that it’s there!)
* It’s really sturdy feeling.
Cons:
* It’s somewhat heavy, which is why it’s so sturdy feeling. This isn’t an issue to me, but it may be an issue for anyone who constantly carries around their child in the carseat.
* The fabric is not really all that “breathable” which means you may end up with a sweatier child in really warm climates. Again not an issue for me, but it may be for some.
All in all, I love this seat and am quite happy with it. It’s worked out really well for us with our current youngest, and I think it will be a great seat for years to come. I’d definitely recommend it!

|Worth the extra investment,
The other reviewers have covered a significant portion of what makes the Britax car seat worth the extra investment over some of the others, however, there are a few things to highlight.
+ Because of the way that the base of the seat is designed it will accommodate your child until he/she reaches 32″ which is greater than a number of other seats.
+ It is so EASY to CORRECTLY install and adjust the seat that it virtually eliminates the need to purchase a second base for additional cars. Also unlike a number of other seats it is possible to correctly install this seat without the assistance from another person.
Overall the quality and ease of correct use of this seat gives you the piece of mind that your child will be secured correctly if anything were to happen.
